Matthew Flinders: the Man behind the Map of Australia

Matthew Flinders Hall, Thomas Cowley High School, Donington
Dr Gillian Dooley, (Honorary Senior Research Fellow, English, Special Collections Librarian, Flinders University, Adelaide, Australia) will give her latest talk on the village’s illustrious explorer & navigator entitled ‘Matthew Flinders: the Man behind the Map of Australia’. This year is an important anniversary with regards to Matthew Flinders as it's the bicentenary of his death and the publication of his magnum opus in 1814.

Ayscoughfee Hall Museum is open from 10.30am to 4pm, Wednesday to Sunday, and Bank Holidays.
Ayscoughfee Gardens are open each day (Monday to Saturday from 8am and Sunday from 10am), and close each day at dusk, and are closed on Christmas Day. Facilities include: Childrens Play area, hard surface tennis courts, a bowling green and putting green. Tickets for these are available from the Pavillion.
Ayscoughfee Cafe is open from 10am to 5pm every day between April and September, and from 10am to 3.30pm every day between October and March.
