SPALDING LIONS GLASSES COLLECTION

Spalding Lions have been collecting glasses since September 2002. In that time, they have collected approximately 60,000 pairs. They collect from twelve outlets which are as follows: Molsom Optometrists, Munro Medical Centre, Tulip Radio and Monkshouse Scouts & Guides hunt. They also collect any hearing aids and mobile phones. When they have 4 of 5 boxes approx - (2,000 pairs) they forward these on to Chichester Lions club where they are processed in their workshop. They are then forwarded to Le Havre Lions in France where they have the necessary equipment to clean and grade the spectacles
so they are then ready for use in eye camps in Africa, India and Eastern Europe. Some have also been sent directly to eye clinics in Papua New Guinea, Ghana, Nigeria and Nepal. We also collect sun glasses as these are needed for patients to wear after eye surgery.

Its time to get nominating again for the 2017 Pride of South Holland awards

This years categories are:
Special Achievement
This award is for someone or a community group that have outstanding contributions over several years. This could include continued fundraising for a good cause, commitment to a cause or someone who has made South Holland a better place to live, work or relax through their continuing efforts over many years.
Community Hero Award
In every community there are those who strive to help others and continuously act out of human kindness.
This category means they have given up their time and energy to help others in their hour of need, either by helping with fundraising, set up a new community group or simply being someone who makes a difference by helping others whilst having their own full time job, family ties or commitments of their own.

Charity Worker Award
Hundreds of people across South Holland give up their time to work for a host of good causes. This award recognises those people who either dedicate their time to charity work, either by fundraising or volunteering.
Service with a Smile
This is a new award for this year. This year we are looking for someone who has provided an outstanding service in the community.
Not just a brief smile and a “let me know if I can help you,” but the type of service where someone goes out of their way to provide you with the best experience possible within their company.

Volunteer of the Year
There are thousands of volunteers in the area and the help they provide is vital to those in need.
These people give up their time and often put their personal lives on hold to improve the lives of others.

Caring Neighbour
In this category we will are looking for those special people who always go out of their way to help others in their community in any number of ways, such as with chores, shopping or getting out and about, or just being there for a chat or cup of tea.
Senior Citizen Award
This award looks to recognize those who are of an elderly age, who have strived to continue to help other people in their community.
This could be someone who continues to work hard within an organisation, or maybe a special person who takes time out of their busy schedule and provides care for someone.
Nominees must be aged 60 or over.

Young Achiever Award
This award recognises those special young people in the community who have excelled in school, business and in community projects.
Judges will be looking for young people who are a role model in the local community.

The Pride of South Holland Awards were launched in 2015 by Tulip Radio, The Spalding and South Holland Voice and the Spalding and District Area Chamber of Commerce, with the aim of honouring those who go that extra mile to do something for others or their community.
so if you know a friend, neighbour, family member or any unsung hero who deserves recognition get in touch and request a nomination form
